Sophie Hamann is based in Austin, Texas and is a graduate of the University of Florida with a Bachelor of Science in Family, Youth, and Community Sciences. Having also studied Theatre with a concentration in Costume Design, she joined FIU Theatre in Miami, Florida in 2010 and has since worked on various productions (Pride and Prejudice, Twelfth Night, The House of the Spirits, Swimming in the Shallows, In the Next Room (or the Vibrator Play), Arabian Nights, Medea, The Last Days of Judas Escariot, The Liar). She was an integral part in getting costumes transformed from design sketches into tangible creations drafted for the stage. Over the past two summers, she designed costumes for the Alternative Theatre Festival and for the Doral Conservatory of the Arts. Her fascination with theatre as a medium stems from a need to work obssessively with fabrics and textiles. Coming from a long line of artists based in Lima, Peru, she enjoys collaborating on imaginative ideas with designers to transform their ideas into reality.

She is currently pursuing a second Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering to advance her career goals in becoming a textile engineer. Her intention is to further the innovation of textiles used for high performance.
